Most businesses make the same mistakes when it comes to writing copy for ads, emails, articles, sales letters, and even for their website…

And it's costing them a lot of money.

I already have articles on how to write copy, if you haven't read them till now… You can do that here. As a business owner, it's absolutely essential to know how to write good copy but it's just as essential to know what NOT to do… And exactly that is what I am going to show you today. Let's get into it!

In the last couple of days, I've been going over some stuff from other businesses… And let me tell you, they all make the same mistakes when writing copy for ads, websites, newsletters, etc.

What they don't know is that these mistakes cost them a lot of money as potential customers won't read any further…

So let's make sure this won't happen to you too!

6 Things That Will Immediately Kill Your Copy

A mistake that almost every business makes is Placing their logo, business name, address, etc. above their headline.

The first thing customers see when they go on your website, read an ad, email, or sales letter is your headline.

Therefore you only have a split second to capture someone's attention…

So the headline becomes unquestionably the most important element in marketing.

We never, NEVER, place anything above our headline.

I mean, your logo won't sell anything right? But your headline will.

What brings us to the second and also very common mistake…

Failure to tell your entire story

Stories Sell. People love hearing stories… I mean we were all growing up with hearing stories right?

Therefore stories are one of the essential elements in marketing.

The problem?

We get bored of telling the same story over and over again and expect people to remember our story…

So let me tell you a little secret…

They don't.

That's why you need to repeat it over and over again. If you have someone's attention once… You better use it to the fullest, as you never know if they will ever read something from you again.

So tell your story.

This leads us to the third mistake…

Not using all the blanc Space

The great Dan Kennedy always says "Blanc space doesn't sell" and he's right.

You should always use every bit of blanc space.

If it's your website, or with direct mail… Fill it up with something. Testimonials are a great way to do that.

But you know what's even worse than not using every bit of blanc space?

Writing From A Me Perspective And NOT From A You Perspective

A mistake almost every business, and yes, even marketers, make is writing from a me perspective and not from a you perspective.

Why is it such a big mistake? What do I even mean by that?

See, people are self-interested. We all are.

So you should never speak about your business, your product, your service, or ANYTHING that has to do with you.

You always want to speak about the potential customer in terms of what he will get from this. What are the benefits for him? How will this solve his problems and improve his life?

Because of that we always want to answer WIIFM (What's In It For Me?) As early as possible.

Think that's it? There can't be more right?

But there's something even worse… I know, crazy right?

NOT Telling The Potential Customer How To Take Action

You wouldn't believe it if I told you how many businesses get this wrong…

But yeah… One of the worst mistakes most businesses make in their advertising is not telling the potential customer how to take action…

If people get confused and you don't tell them precisely and clearly the action you want them to take, they do the absolute worst possible…

Nothing at all.

We surely don't want that right?

All right, we're almost there…

Just one thing left…

And in my opinion, of all these mistakes…

It's the absolute worst one…

BEING BORING

This is by far the worst mistake. If you're boring… They not gonna read further.

Therefore you need to keep people enticed to read. You need to make them WANT to read your stuff.

A good way to learn that is by reading this series of articles.

Whenever you're writing copy, avoid making these mistakes…

And you're golden.
